Understand the different types of service
AmeriCorps State and AmeriCorps VISTA present two different types of service opportunities: ​
Direct Service
The bulk of an AmeriCorps State member’s hours would consist of face-to-face service of direct benefit to the recipient (includes activities such as tutoring children or building homes).
Indirect Service
AmeriCorps VISTA members primarily build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that work on poverty-fighting initiatives.
